Empowering Youth to Prevent Violence and Create Peace in Schools and Communities Since 1994
Check out the Central Ohio PEACE WORKS Student Art Tour May 2013 - 2014
Artwork developed by youth and young adults, ages 6 – 19,
under the guidance of professional artists and counselors in
schools, recreation centers and social services groups across
Columbus represents a collaboration of inspiration, courage and
newly tapped wisdom of those whose ideas take shape in a
conversation and then appear on canvas.
One need
only study these symbols, images, words and drawings to
understand that these young creators take to heart the need and
the urgency to spread the word that PEACE WORKS when we
pay attention and care.
As ideas manifest into pictures thus can our dreams of peace
manifest into reality. These young people tell their personal
stories as well as convey the hopes of their generation. These
images stand as a charge to all of us to SEE what is happening to
our youth, CHOOSE to be responsible, and ACT in the best
interest of all.
What began in 2003 as the Central Ohio Youth Peace Mural has
grown in size and import as young people engage in peer to peer discussions about how
to address growing violence in their lives and communities.
